FAQ Background Check Information
How will I receive the background check?
After submitting your Volunteer Application, a background check link will be sent to the email address you provide.
How long is the background check link active?
The link is active for 48 hours only. Once it is sent, timely completion is important to avoid delays in serving.
Can I begin volunteering before my background check is complete?
No. All required forms and the background check must be completed and approved prior to working with youth.
Are there any disqualifying offenses?
Individuals with Sex Offender status are not permitted to volunteer in any facility while youth are present. Additionally, certain recent violent felony convictions may also disqualify an individual from serving in youth programs.
Why is this process required?
These measures help ensure a safe, healthy, and Christ-centered environment for the youth and families we serve.
Background Check Application
I understand FOCAS reserves the right to conduct criminal background and reference checks on all volunteers. I hereby give permission for FOCAS to obtain information relating to my criminal history record. The criminal history record, as received from the reporting agency, may include arrests and convictions. I understand that this information will be used, in part, to determine my eligibility for a volunteer position with FOCAS. I also understand that FOCAS may continually monitor active volunteers’ criminal records by performing periodic criminal record and background checks. I understand that I will have an opportunity to review the criminal history and a procedure is available for clarification, if I dispute the record as received.
My electronic signature below indicates I have read and acknowledge this statement this statement and offer my approval for FOCAS to conduct a criminal records check if required for this volunteer activity. I understand that any and all continued volunteer service with FOCAS is dependent upon the results of my criminal history record, reference checks and any other documents required that need to be verified.
