Some people leave an impression because of what they accomplish. Others leave an impression simply because of who they are.
Coach Brody was one of those people.
Through his family’s church, Revive City Church, Brody volunteered with Lord’s Gym Ministries as a SAY Soccer coach for two seasons. What makes his service especially meaningful is that he continued coaching while undergoing cancer treatment.
He kept showing up.
Even on days when he wasn’t feeling his best, Brody chose to be there for his team. He chose to encourage kids. He chose to invest in the neighborhood. And he continually reminded his players of something much bigger than soccer: God is there, and God cares.
“Coach Brody was a picture of faithfulness, love and encouragement. It did not matter how he felt. He was there and he cared, always reminding his team that God is there and He cares. He will be well remembered and sorely missed,” said Tom Lipsey, Lord’s Gym Ministries’ Director of Ministry Partner Development.
That kind of faithfulness leaves a mark.
For the children Brody coached, he was more than a soccer coach. He was a caring adult who showed them what it looks like to keep going, to care for others, and to trust God in difficult circumstances.
“Brody Boone left an indelible mark on our athletics ministry. Watching him walk through such a difficult trial while continuing to put others and his community first reminded me of Jesus and how God calls us to live, said Chris McNutt, Youth Athletics Manager at Lord’s Gym. “Brody embodied strength through sacrifice. I’m incredibly grateful for the two soccer seasons he and his dad, Ed, gave to coaching the kids. We will never forget him.”
Brody recently passed away after his battle with cancer. While we grieve his loss, we also give thanks for the blessing he was to our program and to the children in our neighborhood.
