A Time in the Desert
This blog post finds me in Bigfork, Montana, at Wayfare State Park—and, most importantly, riding strong. A BIG thank you to all for your prayers, concern, and comments. Some pain is present, but it is very manageable with Extra Strength Tylenol. The bottom line is, I am on the mend and riding strong. That is a praise to the Lord!
I expect that we will arrive in Helena around Monday and then make our way into Wyoming by the middle of next week. We are budgeting 40 to 50 miles a day at a seven- to eight-mph pace, which makes for a long day in the saddle.
One of the unexpected joys of riding the Great Divide is meeting so many people along the way. Riders come from all over the world, and you never know who you’ll meet. I just said goodbye to Larrs, who is heading out. I trust our paths will cross again.
And one person actually asked, “Are you the same Scott with the cracked ribs?” Go figure!
Gratitude
My emphasis for this blog is gratitude.
I am grateful to God for the opportunity to wrap up 25 years of ministry with Lord’s Gym with this ride on the Great Divide—and to be able to share the experience with you.
I am also grateful for Betsy and my sons and their willingness to support me through this venture and this time away.
In some ways, I see this ride as my time in the desert—alone with God, listening for His voice and seeking to experience Him in a deeper way. At age 69, my prayer comes from the Psalms:
“Teach me to number my days, O Lord,”
and
“Establish the work of my hands.”
Each day, as I ride and take in the stunning beauty of what God has created, I seek to hear His voice through His Word and rest in His daily grace and faithfulness.
And, in spite of my circumstances, it has already been a joy to tell people why I am riding, share what Lord’s Gym is about, and invite them to give some thought to getting involved.
Thank you for taking the time to check in on me, follow the journey, and pray. I pray God’s blessing on you.
You can follow me on Facebook for other brief updates along the way.
Press on. Grow strong. Stand firm.
