This Latest Update From Scott Will Wow You!
God is so good.
Just one day after writing my last blog post—sharing about my injury, the unexpected change in plans, and my decision not to quit—the Lord reminded me once again that His plans are always better than ours.
When I left Jasper with cracked ribs and a revised route, I wasn’t sure what the next chapter would look like. My prayer was simple: “Lord, I’ll keep showing up each day. You lead the way.”
And He did.
I’m happy to share that I’ve made it to Montana ahead of Ken and, by God’s grace, my ribs are healing well. Even better, we’ve reconnected and plan to meet tomorrow, Aug. 8, to resume our Great Divide ride together.
Only God could write a story like that.
It reminds me that we are never alone. The Lord doesn’t always remove the obstacles in front of us, but He faithfully walks with us through them. Sometimes He changes our plans so we can experience His provision in ways we never would have otherwise.
Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
That doesn’t mean the path is always easy. It does mean we can trust the One who is leading us.
This journey has never been about proving I can ride a bicycle across mountains. It’s about using this adventure to bring attention to the heartbreaking reality of youth gun violence and to help support the life-changing work happening every day through Lord’s Gym Ministries.
Every mile I ride represents young people who deserve a future filled with hope instead of fear. It represents the caring adults at Lord’s Gym Ministries who faithfully show up every day to build relationships, share the love of Christ, and help transform lives before violence becomes someone’s story.
That’s why I keep riding.
This journey has reminded me of something we teach every day at Lord’s Gym Ministries.
Life doesn’t always go according to plan. There are setbacks, disappointments, and moments when quitting seems like the easiest option. But perseverance isn’t something we’re simply born with—it’s something that is developed through faith, encouragement, and people who refuse to give up on us.
That’s exactly what we want every young person we serve to experience.
The resilience God is building in me through this ride is the same resilience we pray He builds in the lives of the youth we serve every day. We want them to know that one mistake doesn’t define them, one hardship doesn’t determine their future, and that with Christ—and caring people walking alongside them—there is always hope.
Every mile of this journey points back to that mission.
Thank you for your prayers, encouragement, and support. I have felt them every mile of this journey. Please continue praying for safety, wisdom, healing, and opportunities to share the hope we have in Christ.
If this story has encouraged your faith, would you consider helping write the next chapter for a young person?
Your gift isn’t simply supporting a bicycle ride. It’s helping Lord’s Gym Ministries place caring Christian adults in the lives of young people who desperately need hope. It’s helping create safe places, build life-changing relationships, share the Gospel, and work to stop youth gun violence before another life is forever changed.
Together, we can transform lives—one relationship, one family, and one neighborhood at a time.
